Bimber Corners to Allegheny River 10.0 miles Class Grad Size
(Area/Volume) Scene/Pol Level II 24/33 60.5/Tiny A/A Topographic Maps: Cobham,
Kellettville, West Hickory County Maps: Warren, Forest Description: The start is in a National Forest Wild Area in a pristine setting with clear water. A lively whitewater run going down a narrow valley. The road is never very far away. There are no houses until the last two miles before the Allegheny River. [Reported 1999] Difficulties: Possible strainers in fast water. If the Allegheny River is high, plan to take out at the US Route 62 Bridge in East Hickory. The flood plain before the river could be difficult. A tornado area that has not been cleaned out (1993) is fairly short, concentrated around Jacks Run Shuttle: To reach the put-in, at a point about 0.1 miles on US Route 62 south of the bridge to Tidioute, turn away from the Allegheny River onto Bimber Road (State Route 3005). Follow Bimber Road 2.6 miles to Hearts Content Road. Turn left/north on Hearts Content Road (State Route 3005) and go 6.3 miles (passing through Bimber Corners at abouth 2.3 miles) to a road on your right. Park here and walk up this road then down a jeep trail to the creek. There may be an alternate put-in at Bimber Corners. To reach the take-out retrace your route to US Route 62. Turn left/south and go 7.8 miles to the West Hickory Bridge on the Allegheny River. There is a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Access Area on river left immediately below the bridge. [GHS1]Gauge: None. Check the water level from the two bridges in East Hickory. This is the shallowest part. Found canoe gauge on bridge just above US Route 62, but we have no data to correlate this gauge to runnable levels. Normal Wet Period: No available statistics on seasons. Since this section is tiny, it should normally be runnable only after a heavy rain or during spring snowmelt. |
